Code to Inspire founder discusses teaching computer science to Afghani women

Seeking to help Afghan girls learn coding skills and to empower them both financially and socially, Fereshteh Forough founded Code to Inspire, the first coding school for girls in Afghanistan. At a dinner discussion on Friday, Forough shared her life’s journey, from being born as an Afghan refugee in Iran, to graduating with a master’s degree in computer science from the Technical University of Berlin, to finally founding CTI in 2015.

University solar panels shine as example in green energy initiatives

The solar panels, situated on 27 acres in West Windsor Township, are home to one of the University's green energy initiatives. Seventy-five percent of the panels are tracking panels that will adjust to absorb as much sun as possible. The remaining 25 percent do not track the sunlight and therefore face south in order to maximize absorption. Surrounded by a fence on all sides to protect the fields, the grass in the fields is a special blend that won't grow taller than two feet in order to minimize energy used by mowing the grass.

Princeton Student Climate Lobby aims to engage students on climate issues

“We’re interested in providing an outlet for students to learn about, engage with, and have a positive impact on climate change,” Jonathan Lu ’18 said, another co-founder of PSCL. The group’s inception arose from a need to address current issues surrounding just how institutions and lawmakers are handling climate change, as well as a marked lack of discussion at the time within campus itself.

Graham Richard ’69 champions advanced, sustainable energy through business and technology

“We take energy for granted,” Richard said, recalling the devastating Hurricane Sandy, which left thousands of individuals across the East Coast without electricity for days in October 2012. Richard said that he believes a realignment of energy sourcing can be the answer to problems such as those that arise after natural disasters when only traditional energy sources are available.
