Shortly after their first series of arrests at Charter Club, the Borough Police brute squad struck again, this time at the near-legendary Cannon Club.
"There's only one club that's more notorious for its wild raves than Charter, and that's Cannon," Capt. Charles Davall said. "Our police intelligence people say the club could be in danger of closing, but we've seen no slow-down in the wild partying as yet."
At 2:30 yesterday afternoon, police arrested all 89 people who were in the building, which Davall said is a public health hazard.
"Any structure with two taprooms should be condemned," he said. "Though no one was drinking, just their mere presence in such a building is a violation of the law, at least according to [Borough Police] Chief [Thomas] Michaud."
Before entering the building, police spent days conducting exhaustive research to determine exactly how many people would be in the club at the time of the planned bust.
"We used sophisticated population estimation computer models and various demographic studies prepared by the University's Office of Population Research," Davall said.
"They hit it right on the money, so we knew exactly what we were getting into."
