David Remnick ’81, who concentrated in comparative literature, has been editor of The New Yorker since 1998. He joined the magazine as a staff writer in 1992.
As editor, Remnick oversees one of the country’s premier publications — one with substantial international reach — in a year chock-full of groundbreaking stories, which have run alongside the magazine’s famous cartoons. Remnick has also published dozens of his own columns and podcasts, which range from political analysis to cultural commentary.
With news coverage and investigative reporting on the coronavirus disaster and the Trump administration’s many misdeeds, The New Yorker is an essential part of the national press at a time when news outlets face financial collapse and political attacks. The New Yorker’s Ben Taub ’14 won the Pulitzer Prize in Feature Writing earlier this year.
While at the University, Remnick helped found The Nassau Weekly and belonged to the University Press Club.
