Isenberg's scholarly research is 'fresh, exciting and inspiring'

On behalf of eighteen graduate students in the History Department, I'm writing to thank the 'Prince' for covering the University's surprising decision to deny tenure to Professor Andrew Isenberg, and the efforts of undergraduates to reverse this decision. Undergraduates praised Professor Isenberg's outstanding lecturing and advising skills; We want to second their comments, and also point out that Professor Isenberg's own scholarly research — a benchmark in tenure decisions — is fresh, exciting and inspiring. Professor Robert Tignor, the chair of the History Department, points out that only the "very best people" are awarded tenure at Princeton; Professor Isenberg certainly belongs in this company.

If Nassau Hall declines to reverse course, Princeton will have lost one of its best and most enthusiastic teachers; and the History Department will lose a distinguished scholar who has already proven to be a magnet for graduate students. We hope that there's still time to avert this unfortunate outcome. —Andrew Graybill GS
