Radio personality Keillor named Baccalaureate speaker

Garrison Keillor, creator and host of the radio show "A Prairie Home Companion," will be this year's Baccalaureate speaker. The announcement was made yesterday afternoon by Justin Browne '01, who is the president of the senior class.

Keillor, whose live show about the fictional town of Lake Wobegon attracts approximately 2.6 million listeners worldwide, is a celebrated comedian and storyteller. He began his show 25 years ago and has since added stories, essays and a column for the on-line magazine Salon.com to his resume.

"I believe that Garrison Keillor can provide the type of message that is appropriate for a Baccalaureate service because of his wisdom that is derived from many years of observation and personal introspection," Browne said.

The Baccalaureate ceremony, which will take place on Sunday, June 3rd, traditionally marks the end of the year. Only students and members of the community may attend. — MOLLY GULLAND
