University faculty approved all eight minors up for consideration, including two new minors in Climate Science and Philosophy, on April 24. When the Princeton School Board announced that Princeton High School Principal Frank Chmiel ’98 had been placed on administrative leave, some students and parents expressed their outrage and disbelief, even walking out during school. Now, Chmiel is requesting a public hearing in an attempt to appeal his removal.

In the Undergraduate Student Government elections in December 2017, four referenda to amend the Honor Committee Constitution passed by a three-fourths majority. The referenda called for a range of reforms including increased transparency and reduced penalties. However, a few days later, the University announced that it would not permit the implementation of three of the four referenda because they were “too significant to be implemented without faculty approval.”

Princeton University released its biannual update on hazing, which included what appears to be two incidents: one relating to initiations for a student group and another relating to severe violations of the University hazing policy during a fraternity initiation. In the latter incident, 16 students were suspended for time frames ranging between one semester and two academic years, four students had their degrees withheld, and five students received disciplinary probation.

More than 10 years ago, history professor William Chester Jordan GS ’73 was walking with a group of students in front of Nassau Hall. As the group approached FitzRandolph Gate, instead of walking straight through the center, the students split and filed out the two side gates, as students tend to do.

Students crowded Frist North Lawn this Sunday, weathering the second rainy Lawnparties this academic year. The conditions disrupted scheduled activities throughout the day, causing long lines at Ivy Club and an early closure at Tiger Inn. Skeez, the planned opener for headliner Waka Flocka Flame, was a no-show, leaving a DJ from Flame’s personnel to warm up the crowd. Student opener Ziff & Griff performed as scheduled.

Over the past few months, campus has engaged in a debate over whether the high-aspiration environment at Princeton is beneficial to mental health. The debate was prompted after President Christopher L. Eisgruber ’83 said in an interview with the ‘Prince,’ “I think high aspiration environments, and that includes academically rigorous environments, are fully consistent with and helpful to mental health.” While students and administrators have weighed in, faculty members set academic standards that some of the questions are empirically verifiable. The Daily Princetonian spoke with two professors about mental health and its connection to academic rigor.

A group of University graduate students are conducting a study on graduate student mental health (GSMH) at Princeton. The GSMH project started in 2017 by a group of graduate students in the psychology department, led by recent graduate and founder Abigail Hoskin GS ’23. Today, along with Hoskin, the project is carried on by two current graduate students, Edan Daniel-Hertz GS in the neuroscience department, and Dan-Mircea Mirea GS of the psychology department.
