Good morning!
Guest Contributors Yina Moore ’79 and Micheal Gunter ’14, in collaboration with the Black Alumni of Princeton (CBAP), argue for the implementation of an applied academic “anti-racism center” to “identify restorative measures, define policies, and promote programs to address issues of institutional and systemic racism.”
The letter takes inspiration from University President Christopher Eisgruber’s call on the University to address racial injustice, given in 2020 in the aftermath of the murder of George Floyd. In successive years, the University has published Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) reports. As the 'Prince' reported earlier this year, the most recent DEI report revealed efforts to focus on supplier diversity, faculty diversity, affinity spaces, and DEI administration.
The letter authors urge a focus on the academic research of racism through an academic center, which can impact the community beyond Princeton's campus. They urge President Eisgruber to take a more “meaningful and direct action to create a Center that almost 1,000 alumni signatories of the CBAP petition support.”
“The time is now,” they write.
