Men's Volleyball: Tuminelli leads inspired comeback on 21st birthday

The men’s volleyball team played a thriller in front of its home crowd on Saturday, topping Juniata in a Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (EIVA) Tait Division game at Dillon Gymnasium. The Tigers (6-5 overall, 2-2 EIVA Tait Division) came back from a two-game deficit to top the Eagles (5-8, 1-4) in an intense five-game match by a score of 31-33, 27-30, 30-24, 30-23, 15-13.

Men's Swimming and Diving: Tigers reign at DeNunzio

After losing a senior class that helped rewrite the record board last year, the men’s swimming and diving team was unsure of what would transpire in its 2009–10 season. Led by a combination of senior tri-captains Daniel Dickerson, Jonathan Hartmann and Chris Quemena, and a strong underclassman effort, the Tigers left no doubt as they won the Ivy League Championships at DeNunzio Pool on Saturday.

Men's Lacrosse: Froccaro scores four in win

BALTIMORE — The men’s lacrosse team entered last weekend’s Konica Minolta Face-Off Classic in a position in which it rarely finds itself: as the underdog. Princeton (2-0) was young, relatively inexperienced, and about to face a perennial powerhouse program on a huge stage at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore. But in a back-and-forth slugfest with No. 5 Johns Hopkins (3-1) that went into overtime, the Tigers won 11-10.

Squash: Harrity reaches individual final

Heading into this weekend’s Collegiate Squash Association Individual National Championship at Trinity College in Hartford, Conn., freshman squash sensation Todd Harrity had lost to only two opponents all season. One of those opponents — Trinity senior and two-time defending individual champion Baset Chaudhry — voluntarily withdrew from the tournament after a display of poor sportsmanship in the team championship two weekends ago, leaving his title up for the taking.

Squash: Individual finals give Tigers another shot at top competition

Trinity’s glass-walled squash courts have long been a sight of dismay for the men’s squash team. This year followed a similar plotline, with Princeton dropping a 9-0 match on the road to the No. 1 Bantams. With one weekend left in the year and the men’s and women’s team seasons concluded, Princeton’s squash teams hope to leave Hartford, Conn., on something rare: a high note.

Women's Lacrosse: Princeton hopes to rebound from upset loss to Rutgers against Duke

Last year, the women’s lacrosse team lost a particularly heartbreaking 13-12 game to Duke; in a matter of seconds, the Tigers’ joy of triumph proved to be misplaced. With two minutes, 59 seconds left to play, senior attack Sarah Steele ‘09 scored what would have been the game-winner, but she was called for an illegal stick, and the Blue Devils scored with a minute remaining. It was the Tigers’ first loss of the season.

On Tap with ... Jamie Lettire

Senior utility player Jamie Lettire was a second-Team All-Ivy selection for the softball team a season ago. A first baseman and pitcher, Lettire led the Tigers with eight home runs and a 4.04 ERA last year. After suffering a disappointing season last year, Princeton looks to return to the form that saw it win the Ivy League title two years ago and compete in the NCAA tournament.

Baseball: Barnes poised for success after long recovery

Dan Barnes was throwing smoke.  During last year’s spring break, the baseball team traveled south to face top-ranked North Carolina, and the then-sophomore starter was hardly intimidated by the competition. Barnes struck out the first batter he faced, and after a lengthy 10-pitch battle, sent the second down swinging as well. But on his first pitch to eventual No. 2 MLB draft pick Dustin Ackley, things took a sudden turn for the worse.
