The glimmer of the recently replastered courts in Jadwin Gymnasium constitutes only a small part of the potential brilliance this season holds for both the men’s and women’s squash teams. This season, both teams are looking to renew their play in their quest for the national title.
The men’s hockey team found mixed results in its role as host at Baker Rink to division opponents St. Lawrence and Clarkson this past weekend. In spite of a late two-goal third period rally, the Tigers (2-4-1 overall, 2-3 ECAC Hockey) failed to overcome St. Lawrence 3-2 on Friday night, but dropped Clarkson in a 3-0 shutout on Saturday afternoon.
The women’s hockey team had a rough time in northern New York this weekend, dropping both of its games to conference opponents. The Tigers (4-3-1 overall, 3-2-1 ECAC Hockey) struggled to get the puck into the net as they managed only one goal between the two contests.
In the silver lining of the men’s soccer team’s disappointing 2-1 loss to Yale on Saturday, senior forward Paolo Iaccarino scored his first career goal with junior goalkeeper Max Gallin notching the assist.
The men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams opened their seasons with the Princeton Fall Invitational at Denunzio Pool this weekend and had a strong showing to set the tone for the upcoming seasons. The Tigers competed against Georgetown, Lehigh and The College of New Jersey.
The women’s basketball team handled the Lafayette Leopards in an impressive 87-47 rout on Monday night. This was Princeton’s second win in as many games this season, and, so far, it appears Princeton’s success from the last two seasons has carried over.
Saturday’s homecoming football game featured two offenses that were as different as possible. Led by running back Chuck Dibilio, who became the first Ivy League freshman ever to run for 1,000 yards, Princeton (1-8 overall, 1-5 Ivy League) wore down the Yale defense with a relentless rushing attack. But Patrick Witt and the visitors’ passing assault trumped the Tigers’ ground game, giving the Bulldogs (5-4, 4-2) a 33-24 victory.
“Fuel for the fire,” is how senior co-captain Donn Cabral of the men’s cross-country team described the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional this past weekend. After a long few weeks of training and smaller competitions for the men’s cross-country team, the bigger race served as a sharp motivational reawakening.
The field hockey team saw its season come to a close on Saturday afternoon, when the Tigers fell 3-2 to No. 4-seed Connecticut in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. The Huskies took an early lead and never let go, though the Tigers kept the game competitive throughout.

By going undefeated in the final weekend of the season, the Tigers (18-8 overall, 11-3 Ivy League) finished the season alone in second place, behind Yale, which clinched the title with a sweep over Harvard on Friday night.
