N&N: Rutgers student death apparently linked to alcohol

The death of a Rutgers student early Sunday morning might be alcohol-related, according to a preliminary investigation, though the cause of death has yet to be determined.

Caitlyn Kovacs, a sophomore at Rutgers, had gone to a small gathering at the school's chapter of Delta Kappa Epsilon in New Brunswick Saturday night. At approximately 3 a.m. on Sunday, Kovacs seemed to be "in distress," so a few of her friends took her to the hospital.

Kovacs was declared dead shortly after arriving at the hospital.

Jeremy Rodriguez, Kovac's friend, told CBS that he "sensed some sort of intoxication" when he spoke with Kovacs on the phone, but he thought she was going to be fine.

Rutgers has made counseling services available to students.

The death is currently under investigation by the New Brunswick and Rutgers police departments and by the prosecutor's office.

Delta Kappa Epsilon said in a statement that it would cooperate with the investigation.
