Princeton Record Exchange

If you're ever feeling a pang of guilt for the hundreds (thousands? millions?) of dollars worth of music you've illegally downloaded over the years, then head to the Princeton Record Exchange: There's no better place to alleviate your remorse. A Mecca for music geeks of every kind (just check out the raft of New York Times cutouts pasted on the windowpane), the Princeton Record Exchange purports to house the largest collection of new and used music and movies on the East Coast. Put simply: They have everything. Whether you're looking for gypsy jazz from the '30s, industrial rage from the ‘80s or the latest Ricky Martin CD (yes, I was looking for that the other day), this is the place to find it. The background music is always adorably eclectic, the employees always eager to help (albeit occasionally judgmental) and the clientele makes for the most extraordinary people-watching - has that man clutching the Iron Maiden 12-inch showered at any point in the past year? But what make the store truly irresistible are the prices: Most of the CDs and DVDs are under $5, making iTunes look like greedy corporate criminals by comparison. Plus you get a physical object - you know, with a sleeve that you can flick through and a disc that you can actually hold. It's pretty. It's real. And if you're feeling particularly retro, you can buy records too, because even if you don't have a turntable, they make for great wall decorations.

To Get There: From Nassau Hall, walk east, and then turn left on S. Tulane St. (5 minutes)
