The Princeton Battlefield is close enough to be accessible from campus by car or by foot and beautiful enough to be worth the trip. While technically a Revolutionary War battlefield, the place feels more like the ruin of a Roman temple because of the (somewhat unexpected) assortment of columns that pepper the landscape. As someone who has worked at another Revolutionary War battlefield, I can say with some authority that this is among the most beautiful in the area, featuring an elegant arrangement of Neoclassical columns surrounded by rolling green plains. The spot is perfect for a picnic with friends or a romantic afternoon date. Though it isn't far from campus, it seems worlds away. I would suggest bringing a book and lounging in the grass there on a warmer day: I can promise that after a few hours of the beautiful faux-ruins, you'll never want to sit in a library again.
To Get There: From Nassau Hall, walk west, and then turn left on Mercer St. (30 minutes)
