THE NOMINEES:
Richard Jenkins, "The Visitor"
Frank Langella, "Frost/Nixon"
Sean Penn, "Milk"
Brad Pitt, "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button"
Mickey Rourke, "The Wrestler"
WHO SHOULD WIN:
Fareed Ben-Youssef: Mickey Rourke
This wasn't a two-faced performance. There were a lot of facets to Rourke's role, but they all kept appearing at very organic, real times. You didn't need anyone else in the movie besides Rourke because he was able to texture a whole world with just a look.
Adam Tanaka: Sean Penn
"Milk," on the whole, was a disappointing movie, done in a very standard biopic style. But Penn tried to lift the movie to a different level. He's the last person you'd expect to play this kind of role, but he pulled it off so beautifully, without any stereotype.
Jun Koh: Mickey Rourke

"The Wrestler" is an interesting comeback for Rourke because it combines both elements of Rourke's actual persona — when he took a break from acting to go into boxing — with his character's role.
Isia Jasiewicz: Mickey Rourke
Rourke's return to the screen is a stand-alone Cinderella story, which is what people are looking for this year. Since the Academy includes people from the filmmaking community, there's a good chance they will want to welcome back one of their own with an Oscar.
WHO WILL WIN: Mickey Rourke
It makes good television for Rourke to win. His acceptance speeches are always heartfelt but uncannily surreal. — FBY
