The Class of 2011 elected Alex Rosen as its president yesterday, concluding runoff elections for all five freshman class officer positions.
Trevor Martin was elected to serve as vice president, Jonathan Gary as treasurer, E.J. Chi as social chair and Shaina Li as secretary. Li is also a contributor for The Daily Princetonian.
Rosen described himself as "ecstatic" and "ready to get started."
His plans include organizing study breaks in time for midterms.
"I want to start providing for the class right away," he said, adding that having the elections before midterms makes for perfect timing in kicking off his tenure.
Next on the list is getting class gear. "I want to build Class of 2011 spirit right from the get-go," he said.
Two candidates remained for each position after the first round of elections, in which nine freshmen ran for president, six for vice president, four for treasurer, three for social chair and three for secretary.
Voting began at noon yesterday and lasted for 24 hours. About 60 percent of the freshman class voted in the runoff election, up from about 56 percent in the first round, USG vice president Josh Weinstein '09 said.
This year, nine freshmen vied for the position of Class of 2011 president, down from 17 for Class of 2010 last year.
Weinstein, the senior elections manager said, "the elections went very smoothly." Voting was conducted online as it has been for several years and "electronically, everything worked out perfectly."
Though some recent USG and class elections have been plagued with rule-breaking candidates, Weinstein said that there were "very few infractions" of election rules in the first round of voting. The violations that did occur, he said, were relatively minor, such as candidates misplacing posters.
