Beginning with today's newspaper, a new group of editors assumes responsibility for the 'Prince.' We will work hard to fill this page with columns that address both campus and national issues, from a range of perspectives, in a persuasive and informative way.
We intend to print a large number of guest columns and letters, to give as many people as possible a chance to join the conversation. We are working hard to make sure that our columns and editorials omit needless words. Likewise, we plan to keep letters to the editor brief – up to a maximum of 200 words. Feel free to tell us what you think, even if you do not have a lengthy or intricate argument. We want to hear from you. Send your thoughts, whatever they may be, to The Opinions Department.
We will also be adding something new. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, we will be running a brief unsigned editorial in this space. These editorials will reflect the views of the paper's five-member opinion board, which will adopt positions by majority vote. The five members are: Editor-in-Chief Austin Starkweather; Managing Editors Silla Brush and Molly Gulland; and Opinion Editors George Spencer and David Robinson. Editorials will reflect the majority view of the opinion board, and individual members of the board may hold minority views that are contrary to the editorial.
Occasionally, when a member of the minority feels particularly strongly about an issue, he or she may write a signed dissent to accompany the editorial. We will write about a broad range of topics, reflecting the full gamut of issues that matter to students. Our comments will be brief, clear and to the point.
We do not consider ourselves to be above the fray of debate. To the contrary, we hope to stimulate and engage, generating thoughtful responses from readers and columnists alike.
