Academic injustice by the University
I am writing to express my frustration about the shift in the Dean's Date deadline for tomorrow due to the impending snow storm. I worked all during winter break to complete my JP and several problem sets. I still have two papers left.
It's a reality that some students have many papers due that day and are counting on having every last minute. People may argue that we have had plenty of time to finish our assignments, but those people are probably the ones who have a smaller workload. It is not their place to decide how I write my papers.
The University should find another way to get around the snow storm. One obvious solution would be for students to email papers to their preceptors. In fact, I have already had several professors email my classes about this.
Written deadlines – that have been in print in campus-wide academic calendars since the beginning of the year — should not be subject to change at the last minute due to the whims of the weather. Jeremy Jones '04
Students should be better prepared
I am dismayed by the reactions of undergraduates to the campus-wide email sent Saturday morning.
What does this say about the work ethic of our campus, that havoc is wrought when a written deadline is pushed forward by five hours?
The University has valid concerns with which to deal when the weather is inclement.
We should not expect the employees of departmental offices, many of whom live long distances away, to be subject to injury or danger so that stragglers and procrastinators can turn in their papers at 4:59. Vladimir Kozinskovich GS
