A fifth suspect in the alleged assault of a Princeton student turned himself in to University of Pennsylvania Police yesterday, said Lori Doyle, vice president of Penn communications.
All five suspects are male undergraduates at Penn, authorities have said. Four students surrendered Monday.
Penn Police detectives declined to comment yesterday afternoon, and supervisor Det. Frank Demeo was unavailable.
John Brantl '05 was sleeping in a lounge in Penn's Quadrangle dormitory during his visit for a debate tournament.
He was allegedly kicked, doused with motor oil, threatened to be set on fire and forced to promise never to return to Penn.
The suspects, whose names will not be released until they are officially arraigned, were each given various charges that included aggravated assault, simple assault, reckless endangerment, terroristic threats, possession of an instrument of crime and conspiracy, Doyle said.
"[The accused students are] currently going through the Philadelphia arraignment process," she said Monday.
The students will remain in the custody of Philadelphia police at least until arraignment, Demeo said Monday. Doyle said she did not know the date of arraignment.
A sergeant in Philadelphia police's public affairs office declined to comment, saying Penn Police are handling the investigation.
