Frances Schendle '06 became president of the freshman class yesterday after the USG released the results of the Class of 2006 elections.
The other newly-elected officers include Nikhil Rao '06 as vice president, Amanda Chi '06 as secretary and Lauren Lyon '06 as social chair.
Misha Renda '06 was announced class treasurer Monday.
The results for the other positions followed a close two-day runoff, in which the nine presidential candidates had been reduced to two: Schendle and Christopher Lloyd '06.
Schendle emphasized that she and her opponent had similar issues.
"I ran because I wanted to be a part of facilitating the creation of class unity," she said. "Everyone in our class is incredible, and every time I meet people, I'm totally inspired."
Schendle's preliminary agenda includes planning a study break and designing the class website. She hopes to use the website as another means to pull people together, by highlighting sports and arts events in which freshmen are involved.
Schendle also wants to start thinking about class gear, and her website hints at class of '06 sweatpants.
She said she looks forward to working with the other officers to represent freshman interests.
"I want to make everyone feel part of a class, not just one in 1,200," she said.
Lloyd said running for president was a great experience, and he does not regret anything he did. He feels he energized a lot of people that worked behind him, especially with regard to class unity and community impact.
"I'm sure Frances will do an excellent job," he said.

Runoff voting began Tuesday at noon and ended yesterday. Also in the running for the offices were Erin Ebbel '06 for vice president, Emily Arensman '06 for secretary and Jackie Lasaracina '06 for social chair.
At the start of the election there were 26 candidates. USG Vice President Sonya Mirbagheri '04 noted that the male-to-female ratio was exactly 50-50. In addition, while there were fewer candidates for vice president than in past years, there were more for social chair.
