Remembering Sept. 11th

With today's issue of The Daily Princetonian, our first of the year, we bring you the thoughts, feelings and reflections of your fellow Princetonians.

In the following four pages of the newspaper, you will find a collection of 10 essays and an in-depth look at the events of this solemn commemoration on campus, in New York and throughout the nation.

It is the beginning of another school year. Freshmen are registering for classes. Faculty members are giving their course syllabi a last look and ensuring their books are stocked at the U-Store. Administrators are coordinating Opening Ceremonies and keeping the campus informed of the latest campus news.

It seems not much has changed since last Sept. 11th. But in the hearts and minds of Princetonians, everyone knows things have changed. We still grieve with the families who lost loved ones and we still carry our memories of a year ago.

Whether it was for a moment when a student first woke to his roommates' shouts that a trade tower had fallen, or for hours when another student didn't know whether his sister had been caught under that tower's fall, we all carry the memory of our moment of fear.

One year ago many people felt like that insular, idyllic Princeton bubble had burst. And even as many of us pretend today is just another day on the 'Street' or deny our memories while trying to study, Sept. 11th has had a lingering emotional effect on all Princetonians, all Americans, everywhere.

As you attend the memorial and campus panels today, take a moment to think about your own feelings from one year ago. And our editorial page is open to you to share your thoughts with the campus.

A newspaper can only do so much. And with today's issue we do our best to help the campus community pause to remember Sept. 11th.
