Parties result in 10 medical transports

Nearly a dozen students required medical transport by University and Borough authorities for intoxication during Houseparties weekend.

Ten University students — six females and four males — were transported for intoxication, said Public Safety Sgt. Alan Lawson. Of the 10, three were taken to McCosh Health Center, six to Princeton Medical Center and one to Helene Fuld Medical Center in Trenton.

Though Lawson said he did not know the exact statistics of previous years, he said the number of transports was probably comparable.

In addition, Lawson said the clubs took initiative to contact outside help for intoxicated students.

"This weekend we got some calls from clubs," he said. "They were wise enough to call for help for these extremely intoxicated people."

Public Safety added extra patrols this weekend as a precaution for alcohol-related activities at the 'Street,' Lawson said.

Though Borough Police officials declined to comment on the number of summons issued or ambulances called, Patrolman John Furyk said it was a fairly quiet weekend.

"There were no major incidents involving alcohol this weekend," he said. "There were no pickups that I know of by Borough officers."

Annual Houseparties

An annual event held by the 11 eating clubs, Houseparties celebrates the end of classes for the year. The weekend involves three days of parties at each of the clubs and culminates the Sunday before reading period.

Houseparties begins with a formal on Friday, the last day of classes, and continues on Saturday, when each club holds a semi-formal.

Sunday concludes the weekend with Lawnparties. Each club usually hires a band to play on its front or rear lawn. While the first two nights are members only, most underclassmen attend Lawnparties as well.
