Breaking away from work

All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. With midterms wrapping up, Michael Coenen '05 (r.) found time to practice the piano while Jacob Weiss '03 and Geza Szigethy '04 (bottom) juggled on a warm spring day.

"Playing piano is probably the most relaxing thing I know how to do. I find myself naturally drawn to the piano during times of stress — it always eases my mind. It's ironic because I enjoy playing the piano so much that it's really hindered my ability to improve. Every time I sit down to practice scales or any difficult piece, I can't resist the temptation to start playing something I already know or to try and compose something new. It's very frustrating in one way — but I can't really complain. Regardless of my mediocre ability, the piano will always remain a source of happiness in my life." — Michael Coenen '05
