Editor's Note: Wimbush was found not guilty of both charges in a trial held on April 16, 2001.
University student Forton Wimbush '02 was charged Monday with harassment and false imprisonment, according to Borough Police Capt. Charles Davall.
Wimbush allegedly harassed an 18-year-old female University student who was visiting his room Sunday evening, Davall said. After the victim entered the room, Wimbush allegedly blocked the door with a chair, preventing her from leaving. He then allegedly spit in the victim's face and threatened to assault her, Davall said.
Wimbush was served complaint summons at his dorm room early the following morning. He was released from custody on his own recognizance pending a Monday court appearance, Davall said.
"Harassment is a disorderly persons offense. It's on the same degree level as the imprisonment charge," Davall said.
Disorderly persons offenses typically result in less than six months jail time or in fines, Davall said.
