Firefighters rush to Holder Hall after light bulb explodes in dorm room

Firefighters and Public Safety responded to smoky conditions in a second-floor room on the east side of Holder Hall yesterday after a light bulb exploded in a lamp that short-circuited, according to Public Safety Crime Prevention Specialist Barry Weiser.

Smoke detectors were triggered by smoke from the explosion at 11:41 a.m. The bursting light bulb also caused a loud popping noise, Weiser said.

Firetrucks from the Princeton Fire Department, which were already on campus because of the bomb threat in East Pyne, responded to the alarm.

"Enough smoke and the pop caused quite a ruckus, especially in light of what was happening on the other side of campus," Weiser said. "Among the activities we were going through this morning, it added more tension."
