Getting into the holiday spirit on campus

The warm weather may be deceiving, but the holidays are coming and various performing arts groups around campus are readying for their holiday and winter performances.One event, the annual a cappella Jingle Ball, is Tuesday.With bells and bottles, wool hats and mittens, 10 a cappella groups will sing everyone's favorite holiday songs at the Jingle Ball.

Not the 'Nutcracker,' but plenty of spine-cracking moves

The holiday season is upon us, and for all you dance fans out there, that means, "The Nutcracker." Again.Of course, for most people, the past 18 renditions of Tchaikovsky's candy classic were enough to cause cavities.Luckily, when looking for a sizzling dance performance not involving fairies in sugarplum pink, one doesn't have to leave campus.Expressions, a dance company of 11 girls, opened their fall show last night and will perform in the Frist Theatre tonight.

Tapioca cocktails: An experience beyond the Princeton bubble

The building at 236 Nassau St. bears the scars of a long history of turnover, and The Fortune City is the latest restaurant to occupy the space.The sign of Olde English Fish and Chips still hangs over the storefront, but a plywood sandwich board advertising Taiwanese specialty drinks is truer to the restaurant's current focus.The restaurant retains elements of past incarnations.

A little gender-bending entertainment in Illyria

There is no need to head to New York City for a drag show to find a little gender-bending entertainment this week.Cross-dressing, drunkenness, music and revelry are the order of the day in Samara Abrams-Primack '02's senior thesis production of William Shakespeare's "Twelfth Night."The play recounts the story of Viola (Katie Flynn '02) and Sebastian (Peter Robinson '02), a set of fraternal twins who become separated in a shipwreck and are washed upon the shores of the dreamy world of Illyria.

A cappella concert raises $15,000 for AIDS, Sept. 11 victims

The Tigertones invaded the stage of Lincoln Center's Alice Tully Hall on Sunday night in the fifth Trilogy concert with the Harvard Krokodiloes and the Yale Whiffenpoofs.The performance raised more than $15,000 for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS and the World Trade Center victims.Dubbed the "Ivy League Vocal Rumble" by host Kate Shindle, these three collegiate a cappella groups first met at Carnegie Hall in 1988, in a concert to benefit Interfaith Hunger Appeal.Since then, they have appeared twice more in Carnegie Hall, in 1995 to benefit the Red Cross and in 1998 for Mothers Against Drunk Driving.

From drills to digital, museum exhibits art and history

I feel as though I just took a quick trip through time. Taking in the Art Museum's newest exhibitions ? "Empire of Stone" and "Camera Women" ? has left me with a deeper understanding and appreciation for my world and the artistic heroes of the past few thousand years.Beady eyes peer out from all directions, complimenting stares of confidence and grimaces of pain, curly locks of hardened stone and smooth faces of make-up.
