Black goes back to school in new comedic movie opening nationwide tomorrow

Jack Black's new starring role in "School of Rock," a Scott Rudin film, provides all the traditional forms of entertainment one might expect from the star of other such films as "Shallow Hal."There are scenes of bumbling drunkenness, visual and linguistic references to Black's 'weight issues,' and a fairly simple plot: Black's character, Dewey Finn, is an overweight rock and roller, fired from his band and unable to pay his rent.

TapCats step into Princeton's dance culture

Come and meet those dancing feet.Thanks to a sizeable crop of hoofers, there's a new act in town ? the TapCats, Princeton's first and only dance group devoted entirely to tap.Since TapCats president Tudor Dimofte '04 and Charles Mugnolo '05 began the group last Thanksgiving by simply posting signs around campus and circulating mass emails, the group has quadrupled in size from a core company of six to the 25 dancers who attended last Thursday's workshop in the Wilcox Dance Studio.With the surge in interest this year, the TapCats won't be shuffling off to Buffalo anytime soon.

Halo Pub and Thomas Sweets satisfy students' sweet tooth

College is a time for consuming lots of ice cream, and, fortunately, Princeton students have a particular advantage in this area, with two tempting ice cream shops in walking distance from campus, Thomas Sweets and Halo Pub.Thomas Sweet, nicknamed "T-Sweets," is colorful, inviting and the perfect place for ice cream-lovers of all ages to let loose and indulge their sweet tooth in a manner usually limited to children.T-Sweets seems to be favored by a younger crowd and seems to be more popular among students than Halo Pub.

Stand-Up Comedy becomes official

Tom Harrits '05 does it because he's addicted. Adam Ruben '01 said he needs approval. Pat Cunningham '05 had to find a new creative outlet after a traumatic Shakespearean run-in with a sequined codpiece.Whatever their reasons, Princetonians are flocking to join Princeton Stand-Up Comedy and hear what this group of 14 jokesters has to say about the world.
