Men's Soccer: Princeton to play Richmond, Adelphi at home

Despite lofty preseason expectations and an opening-game victory, the men’s soccer team has fallen on hard luck. Princeton (1-3-1) will look to turn that around with a positive showing in the Princeton Invitational, featuring a Friday night match with Richmond and a Sunday game with Adelphi.

Field Hockey: Bulldogs the last test before No. 2 Terps

After a strong start to the season, the field hockey team is finally getting into the meat of its schedule. The No. 4 Tigers (5-0 overall, 1-0 Ivy League) travel to New Haven, Conn., to face Yale (4-2, 1-0) on Saturday before hosting No. 2 Maryland (7-0) on Tuesday night. It is the second time in as many weeks that Princeton has played an Ivy League opponent and a nationally ranked competitor.

Football: Tigers set to host opener

Another season, another game with a captain on the sidelines. With senior linebacker and tri-captain Steve Cody out for the remainder of the year with to a leg injury, Princeton (0-1) will once again be forced to adjust its playing style to fill a serious personnel gap when the football team takes the field against Lafayette (0-2) in Saturday night’s home opener.

After a tough week, the women’s soccer team is looking forward to opening its Ivy League season this weekend. The Tigers (3-3) will travel to Yale (2-4-1) on Saturday in a game that marks the start of Ancient Eight play for both teams.

Men's Water Polo: Tigers travel South for key games

When No. 14 Navy lost to the Princeton men’s water polo team in the final game of last year’s Eastern College Athletic Conference Championship, Navy head coach Mike Schofield told the school's athletics website that it was the “most disappointing game in my 25-year coaching career. I am not sure I am still over it.” That win sent the Tigers to a berth in the NCAA tournament and gave them their first Eastern title, a fairy tale finish to last season.

Women's Volleyball: Tigers turn away Temple

The women’s volleyball team made its home debut with a bang last night, knocking off Temple and halting a three-game losing streak. Close sets and long volleys kept the fans on the edges of their seats. In the end, Princeton took three of the night’s four games to send the Owls home with a loss. The Tigers prevailed 25-19, 16-25, 25-22, 25-19.

I always seemed to be confused or disoriented whenever I was in St. Petersburg, Russia, this summer. After a hasty cell phone conversation with a Russian friend, Tanya, between classes one afternoon in late July, I emerged from a metro station on the outskirts of the city wondering how I would be spending the evening. Column: Feature backs no longer a feature of NFL

If you own a fantasy football team (and really, why wouldn’t you?) you know the word that strikes fear into the hearts of owners just as it strikes hope into the hearts of would-be condominium renters: timeshare. More and more teams are no longer designating a starting running back and backups, but are instead using a more nebulous system in which there may or may not be a lead back who gets a plurality of the carries. But you can never really be sure who is going to get the most carries in a given game. Some teams, like the Patriots, employ an endless stream of running backs with names like BenJarvus Green-Ellis and Fred Taylor in such a way that knowing which one to start on your fantasy roster is an impossible and frustrating crapshoot.

Golf: Both home and away, men’s and women’s squads clinch second-place weekend finishes

The men’s golf team traveled to Bethpage State Park in Farmingdale, N.Y., this weekend to compete in the McLaughlin Invitational, which was hosted by St. John’s University. The Tigers played two rounds on Friday and one on Saturday on the par-70, 6,734-yard Red Course. At the same facility that hosted the 2002 and 2009 U.S. Open championships, the Tigers played to an exciting second-place finish in a field of 15 teams.
