Playing its second road league game in as many weeks, the No. 11 women’s lacrosse team turned in its best defensive performance of the season at Yale. Senior goalie Erin Tochihara stopped five of the eight shots on goal she saw as the Tigers rolled to a 9-3 victory.

The softball team continued a trend from its last three doubleheaders, splitting two-game series with both Harvard and Dartmouth this weekend. The win at Harvard was a particularly strong sign for the Tigers, as the Crimson came in undefeated in conference play.

The best sports victories are the ones that you cannot stop celebrating. You play the memory over and over again in your mind, savoring the small details that made it great. In the moment, victory is rather like witnessing a great rock concert: You share a moment of amazing exhilaration with thousands of other enthusiastic fans. The softball team will continue its quest for an Ivy League title this weekend as it travels to face Harvard (18-10 overall, 4-0 Ivy League) and Dartmouth (9-12, 2-2). The Tigers (11-15, 2-2) face a pair of doubleheaders, starting at 2 p.m. on Friday in Cambridge, Mass., and heading north for two games on Saturday against the Big Green beginning at 12:30 p.m.

After months of balancing class, practice and gameplay, their schedules become less packed with athletic responsibilities. In the men’s volleyball team’s loss to Harvard on Saturday, there was a point in the third set when the tide turned for the Tigers, thanks to sophomore middle blocker Michael Dye. Princeton started the set lagging behind Harvard, but a kill and a block from Dye tied the game at four, and he later provided another kill for the side-out and served Princeton ahead 11-8.

Wednesday afternoon, the softball team split a two-game series while hosting Lehigh at Class of 1895 Field. The Tigers lost the first game in a 4-0 shutout but rebounded the second time around to win 3-2.

PISCATAWAY, N.J. — The baseball team had won six games in a row heading into Tuesday’s match against Rutgers at Bainton Field. On the back of a strong pitching performance by freshman A.J. Goetz and an 11-run outburst, Princeton (10-13 overall, 4-0 Ivy League) was able to extend its winning streak to seven.

Men's Basketball: Fairfield Stags lure Johnson ’97

After the men’s basketball team was knocked out of the NCAA Tournament by Kentucky guard Brandon Knight’s last-second layup, senior co-captains Dan Mavraides and Kareem Maddox sat somberly at the press conference, knowing that they had played their final game ever for Princeton.Nobody in the room expected that the man sitting to their left would also not return to the program.

Women's Golf: Shon, Boberg, Scarpetta lead Tigers to 3rd place at Hoya Invitational

The women’s golf team competed in the Hoya Invitational tournament in Beallsville, Md., this past Monday and Tuesday. After finishing out Monday’s play with a tie for third place in a 17-team pool, Tuesday’s play was cancelled due to rain, so the Tigers kept their tie for third finish. Nova Southeastern University finished in first place, four strokes ahead of second place Yale. Princeton and Penn tied for third, 13 strokes behind Nova Southeastern.

Around the Ivies: Cornell, Harvard start strong in conference play

It took the men’s lacrosse team four overtime periods to secure its first victory in Ivy League play. Princeton (2-5 overall, 1-2 Ivy League) has suffered multiple injuries to key players, including an arm injury that will keep freshman short stick defensive midfielder Nick Fernandez out for the rest of the year and a groin injury that has likely ended senior midfielder and co-captain Jack McBride’s season. The Tigers are currently tied for fifth in the Ivy League.
