Sept. 24, 1913 doubled as both F. Scott Fitzgerald's birthday as well as his first day of classes as a freshman. A member of the Class of 1917, Fitzgerald never graduated, instead enlisting in the military during WWI.

President and Chief Operating Officer of BuzzFeed Jon Steinberg ‘99 was a former opinion columnist for the Daily Princetonian during his time at the University. On Tuesday, Steinberg will return to campus and deliver a lecture titled "How Social is the New Cable Network." Paying homage to Buzzfeed-style journalism, we decided to take a walk down memory lane and revisit some of his best (and most colorful) pieces from when he was a student:

As the so-called "shopping period" for class draws to a close, I feel fortunate that I was able to finally get my schedule in order. But I also feel like I am struggling to catch my breath. Shopping period (or add/drop period) -- which is designed to allow students to experiment with their courses freely and to pick them up or abandon them as they choose – seemed more like “chasing period” to me.

The reception on Alexander Beach after Sunday's installation served as an opportunity for Eisgruber's fellow administrators, faculty members and personal friends to connect and trade stories about the new University president. Here's what people thought of the new president's inaugural speech.

Grace Potter & The Nocturnals closed out a day of pomp and circumstance with a bang, making President Chris Eisgruber's installation truly a kickass occasion. Their infectious energy emanated out from the picturesque steps of Blair Arch over the entire campus, bringing every student out from the library and every administrator from the office. That's right, President Eisgruber was joined on the lawn by many a Princeton administrator grooving along with Grace Potter -- an entertainer, if there ever was one.

I first heard the ponderous "Water Me" by watching its music video, a work of art all by itself. In it, FKA twigs' beautiful face becomes distorted, enlarged and overwhelmed by intense longing. The song is a careful study in her inability to contain overflowing emotion, as the beat splutters and the bass quakes. Even though the palpable jitteriness in her voice, a clear sign of some inner instability, never relents, her voice nevertheless soars and holds strong. This is not a love she's about to let go, no matter how toxic.

Let's begin with the fact that I've sang more Miley in the past week than I have in the past 3 years. I really really really like this song. It has so much feeling and emotion. It has a cathartic theme that people can relate to. Granted, the lyrics are mildly repetitive but the point gets across in her economic use of words. "Wrecking Ball" shows off the vocal chops that we all knew Miley had back in the day. "We Can't Stop" made me wonder if she still had it in her to sing, but my skepticism has been put to rest.

From Iron Man 3 and Fast & Furious 6 to Star Trek Into Darkness and Man of Steel, this summer had its fair share of trilogies, franchises, sequels, and reboots. But amidst the fast cars, superheroes, and supervillains of the summer, two other trilogies came to an end. These were not blockbuster movies; in fact, these two trilogies offer a refreshing departure from typical Hollywood trilogies. Read on to find out what movies these were and why they were my favorite films of the summer.

In his address to the class of 2017 on Sunday afternoon, incoming president Eisgruber drew deeply from his roots as a Princeton student and professor to frame a message familiar to those acquainted with the university. In keeping with tradition, the speech began with a welcome equating Princeton to an adventure and the requisite, yet ever-amusing, shot at our rivals (“We should always respect Harvard and Yale … because they are two of the greatest colleges in all of New England”). Eisgruber then dropped the biggest bombshell of the speech: he has no memory of what then-president William Bowen told Eisgruber’s class during their opening exercises. Indeed, he said, “I’ve heard a great deal of addresses by university presidents at formal academic gatherings, and I remember almost none of them.” In order to rectify this, the former professor noted, he had assigned a reading to supplement the lecture – a book fittingly calledThe Honor Code, by Princeton Professor Kwame Anthony Appiah. The ideals espoused byThe Honor Code, it seems, dovetail nicely with those embodied by both the Honor Code and Princeton’s official unofficial motto – “In the nation’s service and in the service of all nations.” Eisgruber and Professor Appiah agree that a successful life, in addition to living one that keeps you happy, requires “living a life of service to others.”Freshmen benefit from the honor code in their post-graduate careers in that alumni and professors – members of what Appiah calls our “Honor World” – will give students the benefit of the doubt because students’ “character has been reinforced by their commitment to the honor code.” The other side of this, of course, is that we are expected to “take honor seriously” here and in the future, and let it guide us in service. It is my hope that the 20thpresident of Princeton takes his own advice during his Freshman year as President: it is no mean feat to ensure that honor means something beyond a Triangle song and a job offer from an alumnus, and that service means something to student life beyond unmemorable addresses by university presidents at formal academic gatherings. Good talk, Mr. President. I look forward to seeing what comes of it.

This past summer I was in Malaysia doing research on substituting rice husk ash into concrete mixtures and although that was as exciting as it sounds, I also managed to find some time to listen to music. This summer was filled with some excellent new releases (notably Slow Focus by Fuck Buttons) but I also finally got around to listening to some music on my lengthy “To listen to” list. I thought I’d share three albums from this past summer that really stood out to me from this list. All three are from very different genres, so hopefully there’s something for everyone. Hit the jump to see my top three album discoveries of the summer.
