Ahead of Christopher Eisgruber’s installation this weekend, here is the installation of Eisgruber’s predecessor John Grier Hibben a century ago. Many national dignitaries attended Hibben’s inauguration in 1912, including President of the United States William Howard Taft, who received an honorary degree at the inauguration.

The silent newsreels, the University’s oldest in its archives, feature Taft, Hibben and their wives before the inauguration of the fourteenth president.

After the 2:26 mark, the film shifts to footage of Woodrow Wilson.
