The Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) x Coffee Club event held last Friday featured four drink options — From Gaza With Love, Quds Qawah, Yaffa Sunrise, Honey Hurriyeh Latte — each with a connection to Palestine. Featuring a beautiful array of fruity and rich flavors as well as hot and cold options, the menu offered something for everyone’s tastebuds while the names themselves inspired attendees to learn about different aspects of Palestinian culture and history.
1. From Gaza With Love — watermelon mint lemonade refresher
Due to its resemblance to the colors of the Palestinian flag, the watermelon is used as a symbol of solidarity with Palestinian liberation. The drink From Gaza With Love translates this symbolism into a refreshing iced drink, its fruitiness blending effortlessly with the coolness of the mint leaf.
Both sugary and peppery, this drink is the perfect balanced option for those who crave a touch of something sweet. The minty flavor was by far my favorite element, leaving me feeling refreshed with every sip.
2. Quds Qawah — traditional Arabic coffee, named after the city of Jerusalem

Quds Qawah was my first introduction to Arabic coffee, and I loved its earthy and toasty flavor. First tangy and then satisfyingly bitter, its combination of cardamon and finely ground coffee made for a warm, delightful treat. I savored every sip, craving more throughout the night.
3. Yaffa Sunrise — orange raspberry mocktail with grenadine, named after the city of Yaffa

Yaffa Sunrise was made for lovers of fizz, fruit, candy, and fun non-alcoholic beverages. Since I’m all of the above, this drink was my favorite. With the perfect blend of orange, raspberry, and pomegranate, every sip left a tangy punch. I was grateful to have tasted it after the watermelon drink, as the minty residue gave the Yaffa Sunrise an even cooler taste.
4. Honey Hurriyeh Latte — vanilla honey latte with honey cold foam

Honey and coffee are two of my favorite flavors, so naturally I had high expectations for this latte. Although I would’ve appreciated a stronger coffee flavor, I loved the slightly sweet cold foam as it blended with the lightness and milkiness of the drink.
While I enjoyed tasting all of the drinks, the most memorable part of the event was seeing it packed with students. Matthew Shannon ’28, one of the baristas working the event, said that no other Coffee Club event that he’s worked at “compared to the consistent turnout from nine to eleven.” He added, “when eleven hit, it was so sad having to turn people away.”
Shannon explained that this was an “event to spread love … it wasn’t about anything but justice and peace … I felt very, very welcomed.”
