Each week, Sports and Data editors analyze recent athletic competitions to provide analysis and insight on the happenings of Princeton athletics and individual players across the 38 intercollegiate teams at Princeton. Whether they are record-breaking or day-to-day, statistics deliver information in concise ways and help inform fans who might have missed the action. Read the past By the Numbers.

Twenty-five games and matches were played across 15 sports and four U.S. states over the past week, with only five games played outside of New Jersey. Of the 17 games where only one teams comes out on top, the Tigers won 76 percent of matches and 77 percent of games within the Ivy League. Multiple-day meets and tournaments are counted individually for each day of the competition. Competitions with more than one event or individual results such as swimming & diving, golf, and tennis are not included in our win percentage analysis.

This means that the past week is the second-winningest week The Daily Princetonian has analyzed for By the Numbers thus far, less than a percentage point behind the week of February 23-29. The Tigers’ overall win percentage has been building for three consecutive weeks.

It’s a bird, it’s a plane… no, it’s Jackson Clarke

First-year sprinter Jackson Clarke sped his way up the Tiger outdoor track record lists this past weekend in Weaver Stadium. Clarke and his fellow 4x100m teammates — senior Daniel Duncan, sophomore Joey Gant, and first-year Zach Della Rocca — finished in 39.83 seconds for first place. Clarke won the 100m and 200m as well, setting the new fourth-place records in Princeton history with times of 10.32 seconds and 20.83 seconds.

Row, Row, Row Your Boat

Heavyweight rowing began their season on March 30. In each of the four races, a Princeton boat finished first against Drexel, Georgetown, and Temple.

Across all of heavyweight rowing’s season openers, the Tigers have emerged victorious 59 percent of the time. The Tigers have won every season opener since 1994 except 2009, when the typical season opener was not held.

“This is just a checkpoint, and there is a lot of work to be done,” senior Keelan Good wrote to the ‘Prince.’ “We feel like we have momentum coming into this season, and we just want to keep building on that momentum throughout the Spring.”

Good competed in the second Varsity 8 boat which beat the second-place boat from Georgetown, by 8.30 seconds. With only five other seniors on the roster, the team will increase their focus on the younger members.

“We want consistent, strong results throughout our whole squad,” Good wrote. “Success is best enjoyed when shared with others, so we’re really encouraging our underclassmen, walk-ons and other guys who are in the 3v-5v to really step up and take ownership of this team’s success.”

LIVing on the edge

First-year utility Olivia Krotts scored with just seven seconds left in regulation to send the game to a fifth quarter in No. 16 women’s water polo’s victory over No. 18 Wagner. Krotts’ clutch conversion capped off the Tigers comeback from a fourth quarter two-goal deficit, which led to an eventual 13–12 win.

Scoot over Kelly!

Sophomore jumper Georgie Scoot broke the outdoor long jump school record, jumping 6.28m at the women’s track and field outdoor season opener in Weaver Stadium. Scoot surpassed her close friend sophomore Alex Kelly’s 6.24m distance from just last season.

“I am so happy to hold the record,” Scoot wrote to the ‘Prince.’ “It is an amazing feeling because such a great collection of women held the record before me, so I am incredibly proud to join them... Alex Kelly not only is my best friend, but also my training partner — we train together every day.”

Alex Kelly ’26 finished first in the triple jump with a length of 13.04m and held the long jump record until last week. Kelly also holds the triple jump record. Scoot, Alex Kelly, and senior Annika Kelly all placed in the recent NCAA top-25 rankings. Alex Kelly placed number ten with her triple jump, Scoot came out at 20 with her long jump, and Annika Kelly’s hammer throw of 61.68m landed at 25.

Mac Attack

Junior attacker Mackenzie Blake hit the century mark in No. 18 women’s lacrosse 14–9 upset victory over No. 7 Penn on Wednesday night, reaching 100 career goals. Blake, who was recently named an Inside Lacrosse Mid-Season All-American, netted five to power the Tigers to a huge Ivy League win and defense of Sherrerd Field.

Heavenly Debut for Princeton’s Angel

In her season debut for Angel City F.C., a National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) based in Los Angeles, defender Madison Curry ’24 scored her first career NWSL goal and won Player of the Match. Curry, a three time First-Team All-Ivy selection at Princeton, was drafted 51st overall in the 2024 NWSL draft, becoming the fifth-ever Tiger to play in the NWSL.

All in all, it was a thrilling week for Tiger athletics, especially in the Tigers’ backyard. Spring sports are now in full swing and will continue conference play. Check back next week to stay updated on all things Princeton athletics, by the numbers.
