Nassau Street Seafood & Produce Company

Situated between Blue Point Grill and Small World Coffee, Nassau Street Seafood & Produce Company is an unassuming place to grab a bite. Simultaneously a seafood market, produce store and a place for casual seafood takeout, the store is situated to fit its many purposes. The small building features a long, narrow walkway framed by seafood on the left and various produce and pre-prepared refrigerated foods on the right as you walk up to the cash register to order your meal.

The menu is simple but varied, including everything from fish tacos to grilled swordfish to raw oysters. It didn't take long for the kitchen to prepare my orders, and after picking up some napkins, I headed outside to find a spot to eat. Since Nassau Street Seafood is a takeout store, there are no seats inside or outside. Those looking for a spot to settle down and eat must turn to the store's neighbors — Blue Point Grill or Small World Coffee.

I found a table outside Small World, opened the takeout boxes and was greeted by two large sandwiches. The grilled salmon sandwich featured a large, juicy fillet of salmon with lettuce and tomato nestled between a lightly toasted bun, which remained delightfully soft and fluffy on the inside. The crab cake sandwich also included this perfect bun, as well as crab cake cooked to perfection. The crab cake had a crispy exterior surrounding a soft interior that was bursting with flavor, providing the perfect amount of crab filling for a delectable dish. Both items contained generous portions of seafood that, unmasked by sauces, stood out with their freshness.

Unfortunately, Nassau Street Seafood's tight space and lack of seating does not make for an ideal first-date spot. What the restaurant does offer, however, is a unique brand of small-store charm and scrumptious meals with fresh and delicious seafood at affordable prices.
