You’re Going to Love Deez Nutz: PUB Presents “NUTZ 2012”

Ever since nuts started coming pre-shelled, the erstwhile device known as the nutcracker has mostly been kept alive in the world’s imagination by Christmas kitsch. Oh, and one legendary ballet production. This weekend, Princeton University Ballet will present its annual take on the classic show, spiced with a mix of contemporary pieces. It’ll be a great way to get into the wintry mix.

Jazzy Jersey Genius: Geri Allen Trio

The Geri Allen Trio, made up of Kenny Davis, Kassa Overall and the First Lady of Jersey Jazz, Geri Allen, will come to McCarter to astound music lovers with a blend of innovative and traditional jazz. Acclaimed pianist Geri Allen combines her own spontaneity with shades of Cecil Taylor, Herbie Hancock, McCoy Tyner and Mary Lou Williams. One of the genre’s most prolific collaborators, Allen transcends mere imitation by smoothly fusing a variety of jazz styles.

The Program in Visual Arts presents PHOTO/GRAPHIC, an exhibition of new student work in photography, graphic design and art for everyone. The exhibition is free and open to the public. The Classics: Princeton University Sinfonia’s Winter Symphonic Celebration

In the mood for some musical masterpieces before heading home for the holidays? Check out Sinfonia’s winter concert, which features Beethoven’s “Symphony No. 6 in F Major,” Mozart’s “Concerto No.13 in E-flat Major for Two Pianos” and Martin’s “Ballade for Flute and String Orchestra.” Soloists include Jamie Chong ’15 on flute and music department studio instructor Jennifer Tao and Francis Ricci ’15 on piano.

Join the students of DAN 451: Movement Improvisation and the Choreographic Process, taught by professor Susan Marshall and Toronto-based choreographer Sharon Moore, in the presentation of their choreographic work this semester. Even if you have no clue what modern dance means, take this as an opportunity to find out just what students can accomplish when prompted with improvisational creativity — or simply as a chance to see dancers do crazy things with their bodies.
