The case, Fisher v. University of Texas, questions whether the affirmative action policy at the University of Texas, Austin violates the rights of white applicants.
Princeton filed an amicus curiae brief in support of UT in August, along with all the other Ivy League schools and several other institutions. The University uses race as a factor in its admission process. The court’s eventual decision could have repercussions at Princeton because the University receives federal funding.
In 2003, the University filed an amicus curiae brief in support of the University of Michigan Law School in Grutter v. Bollinger, a similar case. The Supreme Court upheld the practice of affirmative action in that case, which sets the current legal precedent defending the consideration of race in admission.
