Tandoori Bite

Outside of India, New Jersey is known for its great Indian cuisine, so I took it upon myself to investigate one of Princeton’s Indian food staples: Tandoori Bite. If you don’t know already, Tandoori Bite is located on Witherspoon Street just after House of Cupcakes. When I first walked in, the restaurant proved to be surprisingly spacious, and the staff were extremely friendly. After being greeted warmly and seated at a table, I looked around and appreciated the mood lighting. The atmosphere of the restaurant was pleasant throughout my dinner, with frequent attention from waiters. In addition to the food and service, Tandoori Bite had a lovely Bollywood soundtrack playing in the background, pumping out favorites like “Character Dheela” and “Sheila Ki Jawani.”

Although not as upscale as other Indian establishments, Tandoori Bite delivers the saag paneer, chicken biryani and garlic naan goodness that many crave. All the dishes were very large and flavorful, bringing my taste buds to life like a colorful Bollywood dance number. Aside from the Indian dishes you may already be familiar with, Tandoori Bite offers some amazing traditional dishes, like pao bhaji and chhole bhature, that aren’t served at other Indian restaurants. My friends from India inform me that it is precisely familiar dishes like these that help them overcome their homesickness.

Dinner aside, Tandoori Bite also has a fantastic lunch special. At lunch they provide a comprehensive buffet so you can try everything on the menu that you weren’t able to order the last time you were there. For Princeton students, this provides an exciting opportunity to budget for an unlimited amount of great food when you don’t have a meal plan over a break.

In addition to the great service and delicious food, perhaps the most amazing thing about Tandoori Bite is the price. Though dinner prices are average for Princeton-area restaurants, the lunch special for only $9.99 can’t be beat. It can be difficult to find reasonably priced food in Princeton, but at Tandoori Bite I was able to engage in a shamefully large gustatory feast (for a relatively low price). Overall, due to a good atmosphere, good service, good food and a good price, Tandoori Bite gets my enthusiastic recommendation.
