News & Notes: Harvard to shorten exam period

The proposed exam schedule, announced at the school’s Committee on Undergraduate Education meeting, would shrink exam periods from eight days to six, according to the Harvard Crimson.

The proposal faced criticism from some committee members who cited potential backlash for scheduling night exams.

Harry Lewis, a computer science professor and former dean of the college, responded: “This is not inhumane pain and suffering to have to take an exam at night or to take two exams with two hours in between. Of course [faculty] wouldn’t like it, but what do they pay us to do here?”

At Princeton, eight classes will hold final exams at night in May.
