News & Notes: Art Museum releases first mobile application

The app was developed to complement the exhibit “Princeton and the Gothic Revival: 1870-1930” which opened at the Art Museum on Feb. 25 and will continue until June 24.

The app consists of a campus map with markers at nine locations that feature Gothic Revivalist Architecture on the University campus, including Holder Hall, the University Chapel and Alexander Hall. When users select the markers, they can see a photograph of the building with a brief description and listen to recordings of faculty and staff members sharing their thoughts on the architecture.

In the segment on Holder Hall, for example, Master of Rockefeller College and Professor of English Jeff Nunokawa discusses student interaction with the hall’s architecture.

“The mobile app technology allows us to go outside the Museum’s walls and make the experience of great art and architecture available to every campus visitor with a smart device,” Director of the Art Museum James Steward said in an article posted on the museum’s website.

The app will continue to be available after the exhibit closes in June.
