Easop ’13 wins USG presidency in runoff

Bruce Easop ‘13 has won the USG presidency in a runoff election against USG vice president Catherine Ettman ‘13, USG president Michael Yaroshefsky ‘12 announced in an email to the student body early Friday evening.

Easop won by a vote of 1,064 to 982. Ettman won the majority of votes in every class, except for the Class of 2013.

In the original election, Ettman received 1,067 votes while Easop received 754.

“I think building a website was a great way to showcase why I’m so passionate about USG and the tangible plans I hope to accomplish — all with a little Princeton spirit,” Easop said in an email.

Easop’s website for his campaign included sections describing his experience in and beyond USG, his platform and endorsements from USG members and other student leaders.

Easop’s platform included project ideas such as Tiger2Tiger.com, a website for students to connect with one another. He also proposed a revised student course guide that would allow students to compare classes in a particular department and learn about prerequisites and a faculty advising network that would allow collaboration between advisers so that any adviser can answer students’ questions.

“I’m excited to tackle our academic resources with projects like rethinking the student course guide and developing a faculty advising network,” Easop said. “Let’s take the stress out of course selection by making sure we have easy access to the information we need.”

Easop also mentioned his excitement to continue collaboration with University Health Services on the Mental Health Initiative to deal with stress and to expand the variety of student interests USG represents.

“We can take a step in that direction with an increased focus on independent students and a centralized internship funding directory for those of us interested in non-profits,” Easop said.

Overall, Easop says he is proud to represent the student body and hopes to build a USG that engages students every step of the way.

“The commitment and creativity of everyone I’ve met here is what motivates me to dedicate my time to USG,” Easop said.

Carmina Mancenon ‘14 also won a runoff election for campus and community affairs chair, beating Caroline Hanamirian ‘13 by 1,028 to 739. In the original election, Mancenon received 873 votes while Hanamirian received 567.

Mancenon said in an email that several factors helped her election, such as speaking personally to students in dining halls and Frist Campus Center and discussing projects with USG members and businesses on Nassau Street.
