Two first place winners will win $5,000 each and a trip to Washington, D.C. on June 6, 2012 to attend the 11th Annual Vital Voices Global Leadership Awards at the Kennedy Center.
The remaining eight finalists will each receive $1,500.
Participants wrote a total of 2,500 essays on one of nine given questions, and each wrote a 200-word essay detailing how the student intends to use the financial award. The competition was restricted to legal U.S. residents attending undergraduate programs in accredited colleges or universities.
Selections are based on “thoroughness of answer to the essay question, quality of research, clarity of writing and neatness of presentation,” according to the group’s website.
Womenetics will announce the winners of the contest at the 2011 Womenetics Global Women’s Initiative in Atlanta on Sept. 30 as well as in Chicago on Nov. 10.
