1 driver in Washington Road car crash hospitalized

A three-car, rear-end accident on Washington Road left one person in the hospital on Wednesday afternoon, police said.

At around 2:30 p.m., a Nissan Sentra driving south on Washington Road crashed into a Toyota sedan, which was stopped near Terrace Club, according to Borough Police Captain Nicholas Sutter and witnesses. The sedan was stopped because it was waiting for a Toyota 4Runner ahead of it to take a left turn into the club.

The Toyota sedan then collided with the 4Runner. At some point, the Toyota sedan also briefly accelerated and crashed into a tree. The driver of that car was taken to the University Medical Center at Princeton with a leg injury. Sutter said that police are not sure why that car accelerated.

Part of Washington Road was closed as rescuers and a tow truck cleared debris from the accident.

The driver of the Sentra was charged with careless driving.
