USG names 6 students to Honor Committee

The USG Senate approved the appointment of six students to the Honor Committee and three to the Committee on Discipline at the last USG Senate meeting of the semester on Sunday evening.

Steven Rosen ’13, Xiang Ding ’13, Amy Vickery ’12, James Berg ’12, David Asker ’13 and David Newill-Smith ’14 will join the Honor Committee. Rosen, Ding and Vickery are all current members who are being reappointed.

Ding is also a member of The Daily Princetonian Editorial Board.

Honor Committee chair Alex Rosen ’11 said that one spot will be left vacant on the committee for the Class of 2015 representative. The position will be appointed next year to a freshman through an application process, rather than given automatically to the freshman class president, in accordance with the USG referendum that was passed last month.

Miriam Rosenbaum ’12, Sara Figel ’14 and Sarah Burns ’14 were also appointed to the Committee on Discipline. Rosenbaum is currently a member of the Committee on Discipline and was reappointed.

The Honor Committee hears cases involving violations of the Honor Code, which are limited to in-class exams.

The Committee on Discipline deals with all other academic and disciplinary violations.

Rosen began discussing the appointments during a public session of the Senate meeting, but other members asked that the discussion take place in executive session because it involved personnel. Rosen confirmed the appointments to the ‘Prince’ after the meeting.

At the meeting, the USG also announced its summer objectives, which include a host of technological updates, among them a redesign of the Point website.

USG IT Committee chair Rodrigo Menezes ’13 will be coordinating the redesign, which will include incorporating the Integrated Course Engine into the website and allowing for greater personalization of the webpage.

Menezes will serve as a paid summer intern, working on technology projects for both the USG and the Alcohol Coalition Committee.

Other technology changes include streamlining the USG elections and DVD rental sites and making changes to both the USG website and the Student Course Guide.

The USG will focus on 14 other projects over the summer, including the COMBO III survey, updating the meal exchange system and expanding the Paw Points program.

At the meeting, USG president Michael Yaroshefsky ’12 also discussed the USG Summer Storage Initiative. Out of 614 students who applied, 445 students were granted storage this summer, he said, for a total of 2,001 boxes.

Yaroshefsky also announced several promotions within the USG, as current senior executive secretary Haebin Kim ’13 was elected as a U-Councilor in the spring election process. Current Executive Secretary John McNamara ’14 will be promoted to senior executive secretary next year, and office manager Blaire Bloxom ’14 will take over as executive secretary.
