News & Notes: Kahneman, Blinder ’67 honored by American Economic Association

Wilson School professor emeritus Daniel Kahneman and Wilson School professor Alan Blinder ’67 were among four economists named to the American Economic Association’s list of 2011 Distinguished Fellows.

Instituted in 1965, the distinction is granted to up to four people each year from the pool of economists of high distinction in the United States and Canada.

“Although he is a psychologist by training, there can be no question that his significant contributions to economics make him highly worthy of this award,” the association’s website stated of Kahneman.

It also noted Blinder’s significant contributions to scholarship, teaching, public policy and the association. Blinder is the former vice chairman of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System.

The American Economic Association was organized in 1885 in New York and was incorporated in Washington, D.C., in 1923.
