News & Notes: Princeton Record Exchange named one of nation’s 10 best independent record stores

Princeton Record Exchange, located on South Tulane Street, was named one of the top 10 independent record shops in the country in a recent list by Time.

Compiled in honor of the fourth annual Record Store Day last weekend, the list honored the “many smaller, quirkier stores [that] have stayed afloat by cultivating loyal customers and integrating themselves into local music scenes,” according to Time.

Described as a “bargain hunter’s paradise” by Time, Princeton Record Exchange, which opened in 1980, buys used CDs, DVDs, video games and vinyl records and features 140,000 items for sale, according to its website.

“When music became more price-sensitive, we started emphasizing our cheap CDs,” general manager Jon Lambert said to Time. “We try to make shopping here a comfortable experience, so it’s fun to dig through the bins, but not overwhelming.”
