Mercer county Clerk Paula Sollami Covello has urged Gov. Chris Christie to submit a proposal to make Princeton home to a 2012 presidential or vice-presidential debate in the time leading up to the November election.
“We believe it would be a tremendous boost to New Jersey’s economy if our state was selected as a national debate site, and Princeton would be a perfect location to host it,” Sollami Covello said to the Trentonian.
The Constitutional Officers Association of New Jersey, of which Sollami Covello is a member, has also suggested the Newark area and Atlantic City as possible New Jersey locations, among others.
The COANJ cited the state’s numerous convention centers, transportation systems and hotels as support for the proposals. It also mentioned Princeton’s historical significance.
