Despite having previously announced that she would move to Princeton Township to seek re-election in the 16th district of New Jersey, Republican State Assemblywoman Denise Coyle said she would remain in Bernards Township and retire at the end of 2011.
Due to the recent redistricting of the state, Princeton Borough and Princeton Township were moved from the Democratic 15th district to the Republican 16th. Coyle’s Bernards Township was moved from the 16th district to the 21st.
Coyle, the former mayor of Branchburg Township, said in a statement that she changed her mind “after reviewing the logistics and the realities of the current housing market.”
“It is clear that a move is not feasible for me and my family,” she noted.
An independent redistricting commission released the new district map on April 3. While the 15th district is currently represented by a Democratic senator and two Democratic assemblymen, the 16th district, of which the Borough and Township are now a part, is represented by three Republicans.
