The USG discussed subsidizing the fundraiser so that all proceeds could be donated to Japan. The groups are also seeking funding for a possible “large game show and benefit performance” in the near future.
The planned Battle of the Bands will also be cut due to lack of funding. According to USG vice president Catherine Ettman ’13, the USG is planning “some other type of social event” that social chair Jake Sally ’12 will be coordinating and presenting to the Senate.
According to U-Councilor Tulio Alvarez Burgos ’12, following the success of buses organized to the NCAA games, the USG is planning to charter a bus on Saturday, April 23 to the New Jersey shore that would be financed by the USG if it does not sell every ticket. Each student would pay around $20 to go to Seaside Heights. The USG discussed the possibility of going to Ocean City instead, though the trip would be longer and more costly.
The USG is also working on an improved moving out guide, to be distributed electronically to each student or as a hard copy to each dorm, aimed especially at eliminating the waste of discarded furniture at the end of each year.
The USG discussed plans to create an “Insider’s Guide to Princeton” website for the Class of 2015, following the success of that of the Class of 2014, which garnered over 3,500 unique visitors and almost 12,000 visits, according to senator Bruce Easop ’13, who is also a Street writer for The Daily Princetonian.
According to Ettman, several other schools, including the University of Alabama and the University of Cincinnati, have inquired about the website and are looking to emulate it for their incoming freshman classes.
The USG also plans to film commercials starring USG members to attach to UFO announcement emails. The USG is planning to reabsorb the UFO and appoint a new chair, as the organization is currently “decentralized” and “unorganized,” according to Ettman.
According to USG office manager Blaire Bloxom ’14, the USG is also restocking the DVD collection available at the USG office, adding recent movies and show seasons for students to borrow.
Titles that have been added so far include “American Pie,” “American Pie 2,” “American Wedding,” “Saving Private Ryan,” the “Godfather” trilogy, “Inception” and “Twilight.” The USG said it is also exploring ways to improve its return policy.
