News & Notes: School board approves $80.3 million budget

The Princeton Regional Schools Board of Education unanimously approved a $80.3 million 2011-12 spending plan on Tuesday night.

The total budget is $1.4 million more than last year’s budget and includes an additional $500,000 for charter schools.

The budget also allows for the hiring of three high school teachers, in comparison to the staffing cuts under last year’s plan.

However, last year’s financial concerns are still at play, superintendant Judith Wilson told the Times of Trenton.

“The loss of state aid last year impacted us dramatically,” she said. “It is not a loss we can recoup. We will carry it with us several years into the future.”

School officials are also looking into private funding for technology initiatives not covered under the planned budget.

The budget will be up for public approval during school elections on April 27.
