HEI depends on investments from Ivy League and other elite universities. For years, the Brown Student Labor Alliance has lobbied for Brown to stop investing in the company. Students at other schools that invest in HEI, including the University of Notre Dame, Yale, Princeton, Harvard, Penn, the University of Chicago and Vanderbilt University, have also arranged protests. At Notre Dame, students staged a hunger strike, while students at Yale planned a sit-in at the Yale University Investments Office.
HEI did not comment on the recent announcement at Brown but has in the past disputed the allegations of its interference with union formation and other workers’ rights.
