Ivy takes only 6 in fall Bicker

Tower accepted 25 new members out of 47 students who bickered, Tower president Martin Scheeler ’11 said in an e-mail.

According to Cap & Gown’s website, the club welcomed 30 new members. Fifty-one students bickered Cap & Gown, according to two members granted anonymity because they were not authorized to speak on behalf of the club.

Ivy accepted six of 16 bickerees, said two Ivy members granted anonymity for the same reason.

Cap & Gown president Rachel Blum ’11 and Ivy president John Zacharias ’11 did not respond to repeated requests for official Bicker numbers.

Slightly more members were accepted during this year’s fall Bicker compared to last year, when the clubs took 54 new members combined.

Tower held pickups Wednesday evening, while Cap & Gown held them Thursday evening and Ivy on Friday evening. Neither Tiger Inn nor Cottage Club, the other two bicker clubs, held fall Bicker this year. TI traditionally does not hold fall Bicker, while Cottage last held fall Bicker in 2006.

In fall 2009, Tower accepted 23 of 42 bickerees, Cap & Gown took 18 of 42, and Ivy accepted 13 of 22.

Last February, Tower had a record Bicker class of 219 and accepted 99, representing an acceptance rate of 45 percent.

Tower’s Bicker last spring was slightly more competitive than in spring 2009, when the club took 99 of 159 bickerees.

Last spring, Cap & Gown accepted 80 bickerees out of 160, increasing in selectivity for the third year in a row. In 2009, Cap & Gown took 90 of 130, and in 2008 the club accepted 76 percent of bickerees.

Ivy accepted approximately 65 of 130 bickerees last spring, an acceptance rate that was in line with the club’s 2009 Bicker when 65 of 126 students were welcomed into the club.
