At the Class Day ceremony held on Cannon Green on Monday morning, members of the Class of 2010 were acknowledged for their service, leadership and athletic achievements at the University.
Former USG president Connor Diemand-Yauman ’10 was not present at the event but was recognized as the winner of the Pyne Prize and was awarded the Class of 1901 Medal, given to the senior who has done the most for Princeton in the estimation of his classmates. Recent reports have said that Diemand-Yauman and Jonathan Schwartz ’10 are currently competing on the 17th season of CBS’s reality television series “The Amazing Race.”
Class of 2010 president Aditya Panda was awarded the W. Sanderson Detwiler 1903 Prize as the senior who has done the most for his class in the judgment of his classmates. Sachs Scholar and newly elected Young Alumni Trustee Josh Grehan ’10 was awarded the Allen Macy Dulles ’51 Award, which is presented to the senior whose activities best reflect the University’s informal motto, “Princeton in the nation’s service and in the service of all nations.”
Jessica Gamboa ’10 received the Frederick Douglass Award for the senior who “has exhibited courage, leadership, intellectual achievement and a willingness to contribute unselfishly toward a deeper understanding of racial minorities and who, in doing so, reflects the tradition of service at Princeton.”
Joel Alicea ’10 — one of the three Class Day co-chairs, along with Bryan Frist ’10 and Henry Barmeier ’10 — was awarded the Harold Willis Dodds Prize, given to the senior “who best embodies the qualities of Princeton’s 15th president, Harold Dodds.”
Jennifer Newbury ’10 was awarded the Priscilla Glickman ’92 Memorial Prize for “independence and imagination in the area of service.”
Director of Athletics Gary Walters ’67 also presented members of the Class of 2010 with athletic awards.
Lawrence Cheuk ’10 of the men’s heavyweight crew won the Class of 1916 Cup as the senior varsity athlete with the highest academic standing.
High jumper Justin Frick ’10 of the men's track and field team, lightweight rower Jack Leonard ’10 and ice hockey goalie Zane Kalemba ’10 shared the William Winston Roper Trophy, awarded to a “male senior of high scholastic rank and outstanding qualities of sportsmanship and general proficiency in athletics.”
The C. Otto von Kienbusch Award, given to a senior female athlete “of high scholastic rank who has demonstrated a general proficiency in athletics and the qualities of true sportsmanship,” was shared by swimmer Alicia Aemisegger ’10 and runner Liz Costello ’10, who were named the Female Athletes of the Year by The Daily Princetonian in 2010 and 2009, respectively.
Field hockey player Tina Bortz ’10, lightweight rower Aran Clair ’10, runner Reilly Kiernan ’10 and shot putter Eric Plummer ’10 received the Arthur Lane ’34 Award for “selfless contribution to sport and society.” Kiernan is also a former associate editor for news for the ‘Prince.’
